Fortunately, I live at the edge of a city and am right against the foothills of the Wasatch mountains in Utah. The mouth of American Fork Canyon is 90 second away via my truck or motorbike, and some excellent mountain biking and hiking is 10-15 minutes up the canyon. My view to the north beyond my neighbors are the snow capped mountains of the Wasatch: Lone Peak, Thunder Mountain, Pfeifferhorn, White Baldy and Box Elder Peak, which beacons me to plan a spring peak hike.
With the present condition of my back, I am limited in my outdoors endeavors, at least compared to the wild adventures of my earlier years...but I still feel the flame inside of me. I still feel my youth inside. It's just that now my body is weak and broken, and it's easy to want to just give in to the seduction of the sedentary life flipping through channels on the TV or surfing the web. To get outside and play the way my heart tells me sets me up for days of pain afterwards.
